Welcome to Tigertail Beach, Florida
Tigertail Beach is located on the northern end of Marco Island off N Collier Blvd. The bright white sands and the friendly wildlife make this idyllic little escape one of the top beaches of Marco Island. Tigertail Beach got its name from the shape of the sandbar. The northern end of it curls in around a natural lagoon and resembles a tiger’s tail.

At the northern tip of Tigertail, you’ll find a remote beach known as Sand Dollar Spit, where sand dollars and shells abound.
To get to Tigertail Beach from the parking lot you have two options:
The first is to wade through the lagoon that is right next to the parking area. The depth of the lagoon is about an adult’s waist. Crossing the lagoon is an adventure: People hold their belongings above them. The lagoon is home to a wide variety of wildlife including horseshoe crabs, needlefish, Florida fighting conchs and more. After that, the reward is a stunning view of blinding white sand and blue-green water.
The second option is to walk around the lagoon about 15 minute through the sand from the parking lot to the ocean.
Seashell trees - trees decorated with shells in which people had written messages - are one of the first things you will see on your walk.
Tigertail Beach Park is ideal for bird watching, shelling and breathtaking sunsets. This barrier island is one of the world's most important habitats for wintering and nesting shorebirds. Three species — black skimmers, snowy plovers and least terns — nest and raise their young in the protected area of Tigertail.
Tigertail Beach amenities include a bathhouse, restrooms, boardwalks, picnic area, playground and beach equipment rentals such as beach chairs, umbrellas and cabanas. The beach is also extremely quiet and non-lifeguard staffed.
In September of 2017 when Hurricane Irma passed through the area, several breaches formed north of Tigertail on Sand Dollar Spit. Caution should be used when walking to the north end, the currents now can be strong when the tide is moving in and out. Walking out at low tide could leave you surrounded by water when the tide rolls back in.
Tigertail Beach has been named by “Coastal Living” magazine as “one of the top secret beaches in the world”. It’s a great place to bring the family and soak in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. You can’t go wrong seeing the magic of this island within an island.
