The beach stretches for seven miles and has sugar-white sand and spectacular shell finds and sunsets. The Town has a variety of unique cultural, parks, recreational and natural settings, as well as shops and restaurants.
With the average year-round temperature 75 degrees, it’s no wonder that this gateway to SW Florida is a major tourist destination, attracting sun-chasers from all across the globe. The pristine coastline that runs along the sunny Gulf and relaxed island vibe is a huge part of Ft. Myers’ charm and there’s an array of attractions, dining, and resorts that make it an ideal family getaway.
Fort Myers Beach offers wonderful water sports including fishing charters, boat rentals, a pirate cruise, dolphin or sunset cruises. Or how about a wave runner dolphin tour? Or renting a kayak and exploring the islands of our back bay along the Great Calusa Blueway? The list of fun never ends so much to see and explore, the adventure is waiting for you.
Birding at nature preserves and state parks are just minutes away. Or give yourself an island tour on a bicycle, scooter or Segway. After watching a beautiful sunset from your room, your blanket or a sunset cruise, take the kids to a mini-golf course or amusement park.
Fort Myers offers its own great beaches as well as being surrounded by some 100 barrier and coastal islands to explore. The shelling is stupendous, and the nearby Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum is inspirational. The Great Calusa Blueway offers 40 miles of canoe and kayak trails.
Spend some time at the parks of Fort Myers Beach. At Lynn Hall Memorial Park, north of Matanzas Pass Bridge, have a picnic on the public beach and learn about local flora and fauna at a nature kiosk. Next to the park is the 560-foot-long public fishing pier, a popular hangout for anglers, dolphins, pelicans and sea gulls.
Covering the north end of Estero Island, Bowditch Point Park's 17 acres are part beach, part nature preserve and face both the Gulf of Mexico and the bay of Matanzas Pass. This combination lends itself to a range of outdoor fun: Walk on a nature trail or in a butterfly garden, watch the sunset from the park's amphitheater-style seating, spot local birds in the preserve, splash around in the gulf or bay and dive into your picnic basket in a shaded area complete with tables and grills.
Mangrove trees, sabal palms and a live oak hammock are just a few of nature's works that fill the 60-acre Matanzas Pass Wilderness Preserve, 1 mile south of the Matanzas Pass Bridge on Bay Road. Further south is Lovers Key State Park with beaches, bicycle trails and bicycle and watercraft rentals.
These beaches are the perfect place to spend the day, and the breathtaking sunsets are known all over the world.
