- Bradenton Beach is a lovely Florida Gulf Coast community located on Anna Maria Island just a short drive from the cities of Sarasota and Bradenton. The City of Bradenton is located about 20 minutes inland from Anna Maria Island, next to the famous Manatee River. For those who live in Anna Maria or Holmes Beach, it often seems like the end of the earth when driving down during the high seasons.Bradenton Beach Picture Gallery Copyright © 2024 Gabriela BranisteanuBradenton Beach is the southernmost city on Anna Maria Island. You’ll find the charming atmosphere of old historic Florida, with friendly locals in every establishment and a rich culture all around you. There are only 1,500 permanent residents in Bradenton Beach, so there will be plenty of room for you on the shorelines. Don’t confuse this city with the nearby Bradenton, which is located in mainland Florida.
The charming island city is known for its historic fishing pier, which was converted from the remnants of a former wooden bridge connecting the island to the mainland and has become the anchor of a vibrant new retail district today. Certain attractions may be temporarily closed or require advance reservations.
The vibe of Bradenton Beach is relaxed and welcoming, presenting a perfect place to just get away from the world. You can stroll along the legendary beaches, heading to a quaint shop to grab your souvenirs, hit up a casual dining spot, and finish the evening with some delicious ice cream. There’s also plenty of history and nature to be discovered in this little slice of paradise.
You will not find any hi-rise buildings and drive-through restaurants are prohibited here. Shunning the building of hi-rise hotels and condominiums, Bradenton Beach has kept that friendly family-oriented feel. Instead you will find companies offering bicycle, kayak, paddleboard, sailboats, Segways and fishing equipment rentals. You can rent a car, but most everything on Bradenton Beach is walkable. There is a FREE Island Trolley that rides north to the City of Anna Maria and south to Coquina Beach with lots of stops in between. For your convenience there is a trolley stop right out front of our condo. There is a Publix grocery store and Walgreens on the Island, both a quick trolley ride away.
The beaches of Bradenton Beach are one of its biggest draws. Vacation homes are available near places like Coquina Beach, a tranquil beach with calm waters for swimming, and Anna Maria Island, a scenic barrier island with soft-sand beaches and turquoise waters. You could also spend time at Manatee Public Beach, a park with a sandy beach, a playground, and amenities.
One of the biggest attractions of Bradenton Beach is Coquina Beach, the longest stretch of beach on the island. This beach has plenty of sand dunes and waving grasses that make for a picturesque scene, and you might even be lucky enough to spot a sea turtle laying their eggs! Coquina Beach is the best spot for shelling on the island, and there are plenty of family-friendly amenities like free parking, picnic tables, showers, a playground, and a paved path. You can also rest assured that your family will be safe thanks to the lifeguards.
Always soft white sand scattered with beautiful shells, the waters are generally calm, but the wave height can vary from a foot to barely a ripple. Take walks on the beach, run on the beach, find sea shells and listen to the waves gently lapping against the shore. You can see porpoise swimming by, maybe putting on a little show for you. Expect to see lots of pelicans and other wildlife, fishermen and sometimes manatee.
Bradenton Beach is also a great spot for shopping, thanks to the historic Bridge Street. Not only will you be able to learn about the rich history of the island, but you can also pop in to any of the local boutiques to find the perfect souvenir to remember your travels by. You’ll find everything from cute beach themed knick knacks to fine jewelry, perfect for any taste! You can also head into one of the cafes for a quick treat or a delicious cup of coffee or visit the spa for an extra dose of relaxation.
