- With 24 miles of golden beaches, over 4,000 restaurants, and 16 museums, it’s no wonder Fort Lauderdale is one of the country’s top vacation destinations. Besides beaches, museums, and great food, the city’s 300 miles of inland waterways made it one of the country’s premier destinations for boating.Fort Lauderdale Beach Picture Gallery Copyright © 2024 Gabriela BranisteanuFort Lauderdale is a city in Florida, 25 miles north of Miami. It is the county seat and largest city of Broward County. The city is a popular tourist destination, and Yachting Capital of the World.
Fort Lauderdale is named after a series of forts built by the United States during the Second Seminole War. The forts took their name from Major William Lauderdale, younger brother of Lieutenant Colonel James Lauderdale.
Miami's quieter, more elegant cousin, Fort Lauderdale is best known for its pristine beaches and winding Intracoastal Waterway. Brimming with charming boating canals, Fort Lauderdale has rightly earned the nickname of “The Venice of America”. It’s the only place in the state where you can glide past super yachts in a gondola, flex your shopping muscles at unique boutiques, and while away a sunny day on a soft sandy beach.
There are more than 300 sunshine days a year in this South Florida destination, which gives visitors and locals plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature, boating, diverse neighborhoods, events, attractions, and unique only-here specialness that helps define Greater Fort Lauderdale.
It’s easy to spend a day at the beach, with soft sands, beachfront promenades as well as beachfront shopping and dining. With comfortable year-round temperatures, the Atlantic Ocean is always inviting to scuba divers, snorkelers, stand-up paddleboarders, jet skiers, as well as families.
Just two miles north of Port Everglades, you can experience Fort Lauderdale's landscaped beachfront promenade, with its signature white wave wall and paved brick path, and, across the street, luxury hotels.
Along Las Olas Boulevard, enjoy Fort Lauderdale shopping, dining, and the historic districts. A trip aboard Fort Lauderdale's water taxi provides a prime view of the mansions and yachts dotting Millionaires Row.
The destination also boasts luxury hotels, museums, nightlife, shopping, casinos and family-friendly fun from the Everglades to the arts scene.
Fort Lauderdale Beach is one of Broward County's exceptional Blue Wave Beaches. The world-famous Fort Lauderdale beachfront boasts four miles of publicly accessible coastline backed by a colorful array of exclusive shops, inviting sidewalk cafes and exciting entertainment venues. And for those who just can't get enough of this world class stretch of coastline real estate, there are some of the finest luxurious condominium options in the world. Once known for being a Spring break party zone for college students, this newly-renovated beach is now a family-friendly destination where visitors can swim, Jet Ski, snorkel and dive in the exceptionally clear waters, or simply stroll along the award-winning wave wall and majestic, palm-lined promenade and enjoy the unique buzz in the air that is Fort Lauderdale Beach.
Just outside the city limits, in what's been deemed "greater Fort Lauderdale," lie 23 miles of impressive beaches. Sun-kissed white sand, sparkling turquoise water, and tall waving palms welcome visitors from near and far.
Technically part of Fort Lauderdale Beach, Fort Lauderdale Beach Park features everything you need to round out your day in the sun. From volleyball and basketball courts to a playground, there's lots on offer to keep everyone entertained. As for the necessary perks (ahem, toilets and showers), they've got those, too.
The facilities are so fancy, they sport a large mosaic of underwater creatures (and a pelican) to enhance the already beautiful park. There are also lifeguards on duty, which is an especially nice perk for those traveling with kids.
This picturesque park is dotted with exceptionally tall and skinny, shade-giving palm trees and more picnic tables than you could ever need. Seriously, if you brought all your friends here, there would still be tables left over.
